Tevdek/Polydek

Strong, Long-Lasting Braided Polyester Sutures with PTFE Coating

Introduced over 35 years ago, Tevdek® was the first braided polyester suture, originally developed for heart valve implantation. Stronger than silk, polyester suture provides long-lasting support, which is critical in cardiovascular and orthopedic applications.

The unique PTFE coating and impregnation process used on both Tevdek and Polydek® helps to reduce "dead space" in the braid, rendering the suture material virtually inert and reducing the risk of wicking and tissue reactivity, while providing superior lubricity.

Polydek® is the same strong braided polyester substrate as Tevdek, but with a lighter PTFE treatment than Tevdek. Cottony II is the uncoated version of this popular suture.

Tevdek Offers Utmost Lubricity

  • Heavy PTFE coating and tight weave provide minimum friction, allowing suture to pass easily through the most friable tissue
  • Heavy coating also eliminates dead space
  • Knots slide smoothly

Polydek® Offers Strong, Easy Handling

  • Tightly braided Polydek® is lightly coated with PTFE. It handles and ties just like silk
  • Smoother and stronger than silk
  • Longer lasting than silk
